Situation : the « Tinée » valley - Altitude : 1140 m - Population : 1216 inhabitants.

CULTURAL HERITAGE & Works of Art :

In St. Etienne de Tinée : a 13th century bell-tower restored in 1492, an 18th century parish-church,

the 15th century St. Sebastian Chapel, the 17th century Chapel of the White Penitents, the 20th century

Chapel of the Black Penitents, the 17th century Chapel of the Trinitarians, the 16th century Chapel St. Maur, the 17th century Chapel St. Roch and Chapel Marie-Madeleine.

In Auron : Chapel St. Erige - In Demandols : Chapel Ste. Anne - In the hamlets :

the Nativity Church ( in Roya ), Our Lady’s Church ( Le Bourguet ), “Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs”

( in Douans ), St. Joseph Church ( in La Blache ).

 

The patron Saint of the church is Saint Etienne and Saint François de Salles.

Others : there are 3 museums : a Religious Museum, a School Museum, a Tradition & Milk Museum.

A flour mill, dovecots, oratories, painted façades, fountains, wash-house, mountain-barns.

 

SPORTS FACILITIES, both in Auron and Saint Etienne :

gymnasium, bowls-ground, stretch of water, canoeing, cycle-track, mountain biking, tennis-courts, stadium, athletics track, swimming-pool, golf course (9 holes), stud-farm, multi-sports grounds, trout fishing, skating rink in a skiing resort with cable-cars, chair-lifts and ski-lifts.

HIKING : GR5 from Holland to the Mediterranean sea. Network of marked out footpaths

(“Chemin de l’Energie” and several mountain lakes).
